List of Events
Atelier 1 is primarily for printmaking, such as copperplate printing, lithography, and silkscreen printing.
Atelier 2 is primarily for multi-purpose production, such as dyeing, weaving, woodworking, and photography.

Atelier 1 (Prints)
Screen
This is a printing method in which ink is forced through holes in the plate (holes punched from top to bottom) and below the plate.
Broadly speaking, there are methods that use a paper template like a stencil, those that use waxed paper like a mimeograph, and those that use fine-meshed cloth like a silk screen.

Lithography
Instead of creating a rough surface, the plate is chemically treated to create areas that accept ink and areas that do not, taking advantage of the repelling properties of oil and water, and then the image is transferred and printed. Planography is a type of stone printing, also known as lithography.

Intaglio
The areas where you want to show pictures or letters are carved or etched away to create grooves and depressions.
Ink is filled into these holes and any excess ink on the surface is wiped off, after which pressure is applied with a press to print the ink onto the paper.
Metal plates (copper plates, zinc plates, etc.) are often used as printing plates.

Letterpress
The areas that you want to express as pictures or letters are left uncarved, and paint or ink is applied to the remaining raised areas, paper is placed on top, and the image is transferred using a baren or press.

Atelier 2(dyeing and weaving, photography, woodwork, etc.)
Dyed
Using a sink and stove, you can experience a variety of dyeing methods, including indigo dyeing (Indian indigo).
Plant dyes work well on animal-based materials (silk, wool), but when dyeing plant-based materials (cotton, linen, etc.), they cannot be dyed deeply unless they are treated with auxiliary agents (soybean juice, thickening agents, etc.). On the other hand, indigo, persimmon tannin, and red iron oxide are suitable for cotton. Come and experience the dyeing method that suits your purpose.
Books and samples are available in the studio, so please check them out.

Weaving
Weaving is the process of making cloth, where the warp threads are stretched and the weft threads are passed over them in an alternating pattern. In the next row, the weft threads are passed over in an alternating pattern so that the warp threads are reversed from the previous row, and cloth is woven.
At the atelier, simple tabletop looms are available for rental, and you can try out plain weaving. By changing the thread color or material, you can create a variety of textures. You can also make your own primitive loom or card loom using woodworking tools and other items to weave.

Felt
By applying the three main factors that make felt (alkali, temperature difference, and friction) to fluffy wool, the felting process can be promoted and the shape can be changed into a variety of shapes, from flat to three-dimensional.
You can also enjoy the different textures.

Spinning
When fibres are twisted, they become twisted and become thread.
Thread can be made by twisting various materials such as cotton, wool, and silk.
Spinning can be done using a foot-operated spinning wheel or a handmade spindle.
There is a wide variety of tools available for blending fibres and arranging them, from hand cards to electric carders.

Photograph
In the darkroom, you can develop and print black and white film, make pinhole cameras using empty boxes and take photos and develop them, and create photograms.
We also support sun photography (cyanotype), a way to enjoy photography without using a darkroom, for school groups and outdoor workshops.
*Pinhole camera and sun photography rely on exposure to the sun, so they may not be available due to weather conditions.

Painting
You can practice drawing using plaster figures and easels.
However, you cannot keep the easel or motif in the same place for too long.

Woodworking
You can use wood to make puzzles, decorations, and other crafts.
You can process wood using a jigsaw, drill press, and other tools.
Please bring your own materials according to the type of craft you want to make.
