Tove Jansson (1914-2001) began serializing the Moomin comics in the British newspaper The Evening News in 1954. At the beginning of the serialization, her brother Lars Jansson (1926-2000) was mainly in charge of translating the dialogue into English, but gradually Tove took over the illustrations and Lars wrote the plot, and from 1960 onwards Lars took over the plot and illustrations alone. It can be said that the comics depicting the comical and humorous Moomins that graced the pages of the newspaper for a total of more than 20 years built the unwavering popularity of the Moomins today. This exhibition focuses on the Moomin comics and introduces the rich world of Moomin through approximately 280 items, including character settings, sketches and original drawings, which will be on display in Japan for the first time.
