The predecessor of the Ehime Prefectural Museum of Art, Ehime Prefectural Museum of Art, opened on September 1, 1970, and is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. The birth of the museum was driven by the passionate efforts of many people, mainly the Ehime Prefectural Art Association, over many years. It was also a time when the art world in the prefecture was full of enthusiasm, with new art movements such as the Ehime Contemporary Artists Group, which was established in 1965, and the Ehime Outdoor Art Exhibition, which was held in Horinouchi Park near the museum in 1969 and 1970. To celebrate the opening, the Local Artists Exhibition was held for three days from September 1, introducing works by many artists who are responsible for the art of Ehime Prefecture. Some of the works exhibited at this time were donated, and became the museum's first collection. Since then, with the warm support of artists, art lovers, and others, donations have steadily built the foundation of the collection. This exhibition will open on September 1, the 50th anniversary of the opening of the museum. By showcasing a wide variety of works by artists who exhibited at exhibitions such as the "Ehime Open-Air Art Exhibition" and the "Local Artists Exhibition," as well as the early collection, we hope to once again promote the vibrant art scene in Ehime at that time to the rest of the country, and to serve as an opportunity to inherit the heritage that has been passed down from the past to the present and develop it into the future.
