In the "Thinking About Seeing" project, which is being created with the visually impaired in Ehime, we have been exploring ways to appreciate art together with the visually impaired and ways to enjoy art other than visually to broaden the scope of "seeing."
In art appreciation, we have repeatedly considered tactile drawings (which show the composition of a painting in relief) as an aid to appreciating paintings, appreciating three-dimensional works by looking at them with the hands, ways to convey works in words, and practicing interactive appreciation. In addition, with the cooperation of sculptor Katsushige Nakahashi, Matsuyama School for the Blind conducted an online class on tactile expression. In addition, with the cooperation of visually impaired people, we also worked on creating the text of the facility guide and the route explanation from Ichi Station, with the aim of making the museum accessible to the visually impaired.
In this exhibition, we report on the efforts of the project over the past year, and hope that visitors will have a different experience of "seeing" than usual, and that it will serve as an opportunity to think about what "seeing" is. We hope that by sharing the insights and perspectives of others that could not be obtained through vision alone, it will be the start of a new adventure in "seeing."
