The Silk Road has flourished as an important trade route since ancient times, and has been the site of the rise and fall of many different ethnic groups. This trade route crossed the Eurasian continent, where people and cultural artifacts came and went, and fostered a diverse culture that fused the East and the West.
This exhibition will display approximately 200 Silk Road treasures, including 44 first-class Chinese cultural artifacts (equivalent to Japan's national treasures) from major museums and research institutions in China. You will be able to see the essence of the culture that was born on the Silk Road through gorgeous Chinese masterpieces, mainly from the Tang Dynasty, Buddhist scriptures and statues related to Buddhist culture that were introduced from India, and relics that tell the lives of people in the oases.
This exhibition is also the first large-scale exhibition to be held outside of China since the Silk Road: Trade Route Network of the Chang'an-Tianshan Corridor was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2014. Relics from the ruins newly registered as World Heritage Sites will also be on display.
