Shuso Takahashi: 60 years after his death - Dream-like paintings

Takahashi Shuso (1900-64), a Japanese painter from Saijo City, Iwate Prefecture, was one of the few apprentices of Hayami Gyoshu. He was active in the Inten exhibition before the war, and after the war he was involved in the formation of the "Sozo Bijutsu" movement with the aim of creating new Japanese paintings. His dreamlike realm of painting was achieved by overcoming the influence of his great teacher Gyoshu. To mark the 60th anniversary of his death, our museum's collection will be on public display.
