The Seto Inland Sea was designated as one of Japan's first national parks in 1934 as a "land of outstanding natural scenery that is representative of the landscape of our country," and will mark the 90th anniversary of its designation on March 16, 2024. The Seto Inland Sea is Japan's largest inland sea, surrounded by Honshu, Shikoku, and Kyushu, and is dotted with over 700 islands of various sizes. This beautiful landscape of islands and the rich resources that have arisen from it have had a great influence not only on art but also on our lives. This exhibition will introduce paintings that tell the history of the sea, as well as familiar folk art and architectural works. We hope that this will be an opportunity for each person to think about the charm of the Seto Inland Sea, which connects across time and fields, as "my sea." In order to deepen a multifaceted understanding, we will also hold exhibitions related to the Seto Inland Sea at the Prefectural Museum of History and Culture and the Museum of Natural Science at the same time, sharing materials and research results.
