Utagawa Hiroshige is an ukiyo-e artist who brought the world the famous masterpiece "Fifty-three Stations of the Tokaido."
This exhibition will compare Hiroshige's immovable masterpiece "Fifty-three Stations of the Tokaido" with the bird's-eye view "Illustrated Guide to Famous Places of the Fifty-three Stations," which he painted in his later years, and introduce the world of nostalgia and lyricism in the style of snow, moon, and flowers of the four seasons, including works by French post-impressionist painters, especially "One Hundred Famous Views of Edo," which fascinated Vincent van Gogh. In addition, as a reference exhibit, there will be a special exhibition of masterpieces on the theme of snow, moon, and flowers by famous painters such as Toyokuni, Kunisada, and Eizan.
Hiroshige's depictions of the original Japanese landscapes invite us Japanese to feel nostalgia. We hope that this exhibition will be an opportunity to rediscover the new charms of Japan.
