Dogo Onsen is said to be the oldest hot spring in Japan. The Dogo Onsen Main Building (Important Cultural Property), widely loved as its symbol, is celebrating the 130th anniversary of the reconstruction of the Kami no Yu Main Building into its current three-story building in 1894, and the preservation and repair work that has been ongoing since 2018 is scheduled to be completed this year. To commemorate this, this exhibition traces the long history of Dogo Onsen from the age of mythology to the present, and the unique flow of culture and art that has developed in the area of "Dogo," which can be said to be a major cultural hub in Iyo Matsuyama.
The exhibition will feature documents showing the historical background of the Dogo region, as well as items from the Dogo Onsen Main Building that were discovered during the preservation and repair work, in an art survey conducted with the cooperation of our museum.
